December is a great time to teach your kids to give to others. I’ve tried each year to teach my boys to think of each other and what they can do for each other to make their Christmas happier.
When they were younger, I started by giving them a budget at the dollar store to buy their gifts. Now that they earn some money from allowance, chores for neighbours and babysitting, they have a little extra money to buy for each other and usually buy from a department store. I just ask them to brainstorm and make a list in advance so that they don’t get distracted.
The major role you play is to encourage your kids to think about giving to their siblings, cousins or close friends, to help them develop a giving spirit.
