Recently, my kids had a few days off school, and I like to challenge them to keep their brains sharp when they do.
I challenged them to find a topic they are interested in, anything really, find something they wanted to learn about that subject (ask a question about it) and look it up, and then report back to me on what they learned.
This was a fun, informal, quick task, and out worked great. The kids picked topics that I never would’ve chosen for them – What is a macaroon and how do I make one?, Why do all Nickelback songs sound the same?, How much do apartments cost?, and What is a charley horse?
Encourage your kids to explore their interests, teach them how to do research and have fun together!
